Cross Country: Junior Year

Bailey had a great cross country season! I love watching her run! Cross country is my favorite time of the year, and meet days are my favorite days of the week. My own high school experience made me gain a love and appreciation for this sport! Bailey got a course PR or a career PR on almost every race this season!

The season kicked off with the Madison Dash & Splash. This is a brand new race, and it was only 2 miles. Bailey prefers the longer courses, but she did great! It was a perfect start to the season.

Madison Dash & Splash:
11th & 12th Graders
2 mile course
13:53
7th out of 61 runners
11th &12th grade girls

Sprained ankle

Bailey rolled her ankle really bad in practice at the beginning of the week. She didn't run the rest of the week. She shouldn't have been running this race, but it's one of her favorites. Dr. Moss was there, so he taped her up. We were so nervous to have her run! She was in a lot of pain, but ended up doing really well. The downhill was really hard on her. She would pass girls on the big uphill, and then they would fly by her on the downhill because that's what hurt her ankle. She said it was so frustrating!
Fun friends!
Varsity girls

I love watching her start!
Tiger/Grizz:
21:17
Course PR
35th out of 174 runners
24th out of 89 runners in our division

Megan, Holly, Bailey, Grace, Hannah, Maylie, Kayla
I love when she gets that determined look on her face during races!
She does great on the hard, hilly courses!
I love how much these two support each other!
Bailey loves all the middle school runners! She loves cute Jordyn!
Right after the Tiger/Grizz meet, some of the girls got ready and went to the civil war football game!

Century Challenge:
21:34
12 second course PR
13th out of 69 runners

We love cheering for her on this course. If we run a lot, we can see her in so many places!
This picture is all sorts of awkward! The girls are nuts, and you gotta love Jakob's photo bomb!

Bob Firman:
20:56
1 second career PR
73rd out of 316 runners
Sprained ankle

Mark and I drove over on Friday morning, and spent the day riding bikes along the Boise Greenbelt. We biked for over 25 miles, and only covered half the greenbelt. It's huge! That night, we met the Freeman's for dinner. It was so fun to see everyone! Then Mark and I went to the Village to watch the fountain light show. Fun place!

Boise Greenbelt
Beautiful 25 mile ride!

Cathy even came to watch Bailey run her race on Saturday!
Fountain lights at the Village Mall

Bus ride!
They drove to Boise and went straight to the course on Friday to run their pre-meet workout.  Before they even started, Bailey rolled her same ankle again. This time it had her in tears! She was so worried about running on it the next day! She ended up doing super good! She ran a career PR by 1 second. She said the second sprain ended up being a blessing. Her whole ankle had been hurting all season. When she rolled it the second time, the pain was worse, but only in one localized spot, and it went away from everywhere else. Weird!
When they got to their hotel, Bailey sat in the bathtub to ice and elevate her ankle. They filled the sink with ice, and sent me this picture of all of them icing something! Hahaha! weirdos!
They went to dinner with everyone, and then hung out at the mall. The girls tried on formal dresses, put make up on from the make up counter, and basically just goofed around.
Dr. Moss was always there when she needed him! He taped her up so she could run! He's such a nice guy!
All set to run!
This is the mile mark!
You can kind of tell how big the race is from this picture. This line of girls continued forever! 316 runners!
The big downhill!
So happy to be there!
Maylie, Ezri, Kayla, Gabby, Grace, Hannah, Rachel, Megan, Carina, Jessica, Bailey, Holly
Love these crazy girls!

These girls have been running together since middle school. I'm grateful Bailey has Hannah for a best friend! They bring out the best in each other!
Hahaha, I love this picture!

Rob Campell:
21:12
15th out of 57 runners

Hannah, Maylie, Rachel, Kayla, Bailey, Jessica, Holly
This is the most aggressive we had seen Bailey run up to this point in the season. She competed so well at this meet!

Cute photo bomber!
BHS and RMMS took home lots of medals from this meet!

Bob Conley:
20:20
Big career PR
45th out of 124 runners

Bailey ran awesome at this meet and got a huge career PR! To celebrate, I took these two out to dinner at Red Lobster!

City/County:
21:23
7th out of 84

I love City/County, because everyone gets to run together!

Bailey knew that to medal, she was going to have to break up the big pack of Hillcrest girls. She ran a very smart race, and got it done. She's really learning how to compete, and use some strategy this season.
Our awesome boy's team!
The student council came to watch the team run!
7th place!
Hahaha, love them!
So cute!
Ezri cracks me up in this one!

Districts:

20:40
11th out of 102 runners
STATE QUALIFIER

This was the most nerve wracking and exciting race she's ever run! Last year she was 2 places away from qualifying for state. This year she has been running way better, but her rankings have been about the same as last year. She would have a big break through race, and so would everyone else, and she would drop in the rankings. It was so frustrating! Going into districts, she was ranked 14th, and they take top 12 to state. She knew exactly who she had to beat to get there. She ran so smart, and she did it! So proud of her!

She was in a perfect position at this point in the race, but it was only half way done! I was pretty sure Mark was going to have a heart attack!
Once she passed us here, we let ourselves get our hopes up. She was in 11th place and only had an 800 to go!
She did it! 11th place! State qualifier! You can see by her smile in this picture, and every single one I took after this how excited she was!
We're her biggest fans! So proud of her!
They both qualified!
If you qualify as an individual, you get to bring someone with you. Hannah is her person!
The parents all got together and brought dinner for the runners after districts! So fun!
Yay!
Here is all of Bonneville's state qualifiers! The boys qualified as a team!
She made the paper!

State:

21:17
53rd out of 88 runners

These cute girls came to watch!

The course was a big, soggy, muddy mess, which Bailey thought was lots of fun! She had mud everywhere when she finished, including her face!
This is Bailey's 6th season being coached by Johnson. It seems crazy that she only has one left!
She was so happy to be there!
Perfect end to a great season!
Bailey received lots of certificates at the cross country banquet. She got her varsity letter, a 5A District 5/6 All Conference 2nd Team Selection, a State Certificate, a Distinguished Team Scholastic Award, and an Outstanding Individual Scholastic Award. Good job Bailey!

I always hate when the season ends, but Bailey needs some time off to let her ankle heal and give her body a break. Now we count down till track!
