Senior Project: Women's Self Defense

Bailey did her senior project on Women's Self Defense. It was a great project for her, and she learned a ton! First she did research to decide which direction she wanted her project to go. She decided to focus on preventive measures. That's what she wrote her research paper on. Then she started the practical part. She took a self defense class and loved it! She learned a lot of great stuff, and decided to sign up for another longer, more in depth course. Next, she taught the things she learned to a group of about 25 girls and women from our neighborhood. The last step was the community night at Bonneville. She had to make a trifold poster about her project, and answer any questions people had as they went around looking at projects. She also had to do a presentation to a couple classes at school, and get judged by a few teachers. She did awesome on all of it!

Self Defense Class:
She took a 4 hour class from ATA on a Saturday. Suzie took the class too, so her and Bailey were partners.

Getting out of a choke hold.

Getting out of a bear hug with arms pinned.

Getting out of a bear hug with arms free.

This was their attacker.

Once they learned and practiced all the stuff, they got to apply it. They turned the music up loud, and 3 ladies would go stand out on the mat with their eyes closed. The attacker would randomly pick one, and the women had to use what they learned to get out of the holds, and fight him off. Mark was there taking some pictures for her project, and it kind of freaked him out. I kept getting texts saying that he was signing us both up for all the classes.  Hahaha!

Teaching:
Bailey loved teaching the stuff she learned. She had a great turn out, and everyone learned a lot and had fun! The first hour was spent on preventive measures. Things to do to prevent getting in a situation where you would have to physically defend yourself. The last half hour was spent on some basic self defense skills in case they ever have to defend themselves.

Mark agreed to be her attacker for the night. Hahaha, can you tell he was scared?!!
Bailey kicking Mark's butt one attack at a time! :)

I love all these awesome girls, parents, and leaders!
 Community Night:

Her trifold poster.

Bailey was worried she was going to be standing there all night, and never have anyone ask about her project. But, she had tons of people come by and talk to her about it. She even got to demonstrate some of her moves.
Great job Bailey! Now you're one step closer to graduation!
