Last year Bailey, Reagan, and Courtney ran a half marathon when the cross country season was over. The other two girls moved up to High School, but Bailey still wanted to do it again. We mapped out a 13.1 mile course, sent information out to the Rocky Mountain runners, and our half marathon was planned. We had 7 runners show up to do it, and they all finished! I was so proud of them. Some of these kids had never run more than 5 or 6 miles before.
Bailey, Bri, Emma, Rachael, Tanner, Preston, and Jessiny getting ready to start.
Running down Hitt Road coming up on mile 3.
We had such great parent support! Emma's mom set up these cute aide stations along the way so the kids could have water, and a banana. Parents and siblings were along the course cheering and holding up signs. One mom ran part of the course with them to make sure they didn't get lost through the tricky parts. They had a whole fan club at the finish line cheering for them. One mom brought treats for them when they finished. It was just awesome!
I stopped every couple miles and held up my sign and cheered as they ran by!
Resting at the aide station.
Fixing a blister and smiling for the camera at mile 7. They were all doing great!
Mark made them an actual finish line. It was so cute! When they saw it, they all linked arms so they could cross it together.
FINISHED! 13.1 miles, and they were still being crazy and goofy! What awesome kids!
I'm so proud of them! There are a lot of things kids can do these days to get themselves into trouble. It makes me so happy that these kids chose good, challenging goals to accomplish instead.
Toasting their success with chocolate milk!
Good job Panthers! Way to run!
