Spring Break!

Bailey and I took our annual spring break trip to CA again this year. We left at 5:00 in the morning on Saturday and drove straight through. We usually drive it in two days, but we actually decided that we like doing all in one day better.
Day 1:
On Sunday we hung around the ranch all day and played with the horses. That night we did our annual family dinner at Bongiovanni's.

This is Sultan! He's new since the last time we visited. We loved him!

Nova was glad to have her buddy back! She loves to follow Bailey around.

Three generations of horse lovers!

Bailey and Joey

I love him! He's my favorite!

We brushed piles and piles of hair off Joey while we were there. We both rode him around the ranch on Sunday.

Hunter and Bailey!

Me and Craig!

We take this same picture every year!
Day 2:
Bailey and I got up early and drove to Poway Lake to hike/run Mount Woodson. We hiked the 4 miles to the top, and ran the 4 miles back down. It was a really cool hike! From the top we could see the ocean, downtown San Diego, and clear into Mexico. When we got back from our hike, we went on a trail ride.

That's Mexico and the Pacific Ocean behind her.

Potato Chip Rock

We went on a fun trail ride. Mr. Pal, Bailey, and Max getting ready to go.

Bailey loves riding Mr. Pal. He's a total spaz, and she thinks it's so fun!

Day 3:
On Tuesday we got up early again to do the Cedar Creek Falls/Devil's Punchbowl hike. It's this beautiful oasis in the middle of no where. We had the whole place to ourselves for over an hour. The water was FREEZING, but crazy Bailey went in anyways! After we finished at the base of the waterfall, we hiked to the top of it. We had that area to ourselves too! Once we finished our hike, we stopped in Julian for their famous pie! Yum!

This is the canyon we hiked down to get to the waterfall.

Enjoy this little video!

Devil's Punchbowl! The pictures don't do it justice. It's the coolest place! So beautiful!

Right before we took this picture, Bailey hit her head on a tree so hard that she almost passed out. She was dizzy and had a headache for the rest of the trip. I'm thinking she may have had a concussion.

She sat on that rock for a long time building up her nerve to jump in. The water was so cold!

She finally did it! I missed the picture, so she had to jump in 4 more times until I finally got a good one! Hahaha, I thought she was gonna kill me! When she was swimming back to the rocks to climb out, she was yelling, "My muscles are clenching!" It was so cold that her muscles were locking up! I thought I was gonna have to jump in and save her. I was laughing so hard, I probably would have been no help.

The 4th times a charm, and I finally got a good picture!

This was the top of the falls. There was a little pool right behind where Bailey is standing and you could get in and look right over the waterfall.

She was so excited to finally get Julian pie!

We couldn't decide, so we got 3 pieces to share! :)
Day 4:
Beach Day! This was probably our favorite day. We went to Torrey Pines State Reserve and ran along the cliffs overlooking the ocean. We saw two pods of dolphins! After our run, we played at the beach. This area was so gorgeous! That evening, we met some of my high school friends at the Souplantation for dinner. It was so fun for Bailey to meet them, and to catch up and talk about the good old days.

Best run ever!

We were watching a pod of dolphins right by the shore from this lookout point.

She was so excited that the path took us down to the beach. The whole time we were running she would giggle and say, "There's the ocean!"

Flat Rock

This was my favorite part of the whole day! I got this great picture of Bailey jumping in the ocean. She looked at it and said she wanted me to take another one because she was making a funny face. She wanted one with a normal face. Zoom in on the next picture!

This was the try for the normal face! We were laughing sooooo hard! She couldn't try again, because jumping was hurting her head, and making her dizzy (from hitting her head the day before).

This was our last lookout point, and one of our favorites. So pretty!

Playing at the beach!

She went under. She was the only one crazy enough to be in the water. There was a lady watching her from the shore, and she cheered for Bailey when she finally went under.

This is Black's Beach-it's a nude beach. We were only on the cliff above it trying to find a sign for Bailey to take a picture with. Then we saw our second pod of dolphins! They were right by the shore, and a lady walked up the hill and told us she was swimming right by them. We wanted to go down and see them so bad, but we were more worried about the other 'stuff' we'd see. We opted to watch the dolphins from afar.

Day 5:
We started day 5 with a very hard run up Cowles Mountain. Bailey is a beast and could run almost all the way up. There is a 360 degree view from the top, but it was a cloudy day, so we didn't have very good visibility. It was rainy for a lot of the day, so we hung out in the cabin watching Harry Potter movies with my Mom. She had finished reading the series earlier in the year, so we were tying to watch a movie each night that we were there. We got them all finished up on Thursday. We also played with the horses one last time since we were leaving early the next morning.

Avalon is the neighbor's dog. She loved Bailey and followed her everywhere.

Cruisin' in the golf cart!
We had a great trip! This was her last high school spring break, so we'll have to decide if we want to keep the CA tradition, or start a new one for the college years.
