What the H*** were we thinking!

We have a very unexpected new addition to our family. Her name is Oreo, and she's a cute little puppy! She's 1/2 lab, 1/2 hound. Me and Mark were jogging around the Green Belt, and Bailey was on her bike. Someone was giving away free puppies. We stopped to hold them, and Bailey started begging for one (of course). I told her there was no way Mark would let us have another dog. Mark said, "I don't really care." He said it RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER!!! Well, we continued on our run, and Bailey was crying and begging the whole way. She was literally sobbing by the time we got to the truck. Mark made her get out while we talked about it. There was only one girl in the group, so Mark told her that we would drive back around and if the girl was still there, then she could have it. If she was already gone, then it wasn't meant to be, and she COULDN'T throw a fit. When we got there, people were walking off with puppies left and right. We thought we were in the clear. There were only 2 left...the girl and a boy. Right as we walked up, a young guy on a bike (probably 20 years old) picked up the girl and said he would take her. Bailey tried with all her might to hold back the tears. The guy who was giving them away tried to casually convince him to take the boy puppy, but he was set on the girl. The man finally told him that Bailey could only have one if it was a girl. He really wanted the girl, but he took one look at Bailey's devastated little face, and handed the little girl puppy over to her, and said he would take the boy. That's when Bailey's tears started coming. It was the sweetest thing. I was sure that he was young enough to not care if a little girl wanted the same puppy as him. It's nice to know that I was wrong, and there are so many good people out there. In the truck on the way home, I was wondering what the heck we had just done! But I turned around and saw Bailey giggling while her puppy smothered her with kisses, and I thought maybe it would be okay. Mark said it just felt right. We thought Bailey needed the same opportunity that Sawyer had with Reeses. She has been SO responsible so far. She does everything, including getting up with her at night. Bailey only got 3 hours of sleep the first night. She is so motherly, and is doing a great job. Reeses has a new best friend, and is SO sweet with her. She just loves her. Between Bailey and Reeses, poor little Oreo is totally smothered with love! Now that the garage is finished, we just need to put a dog door going from the garage to the back yard, and that's where they will stay.

Okay, so she is really cute! That face is adorable. Bailey is very motherly, I can only imagine. I think we might try to come up nxt weekend if that works for you guys. Let me know if you are sick of us and want us to stay somewhere else.

Who could resist such a cute little love bug? Kudos to Bailey for turning on the charm and winning over not just her parents, but the person giving away the puppies and the random guy who wanted the girl puppy. And she even gets up in the middle of the night with Oreo? Good job!

We are thrilled about our brand new grandpuppy. She definitely looks like a Varvel!! What a little cutie--so happy Reeses likes her, too. Can't wait to give both of them a big hug!!

How adorable. You two are great parents! I doubt my kids will ever get another animal - they are too much work for - but only time will tell. The girls would love to come visit the new addition sometime!
